Robert N. Miller, 80, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017 in El Paso, Texas while visiting his daughter. He was born in Ft. Wayne, IN on October 19, 1936 to the late John H. & Virginia M. (Bucher) Miller. He married Darlene Mary Wisler on January 6, 1962 at Coburn Corners Church of Christ and she preceded him in death on October 18, 2009.
Surviving are daughters, Tina (Roy) Galvin of Leo, Tammy (Justo) Chagoya of St. Joe, Diane (Kenneth) Jacquay of Auburn, Carolyn (Jeffrey) Brown of Noblesville, Janette (Jason) Roth of El Paso, TX, and Angel (Jeremy) Amburgey of St. Joe; 19 grandchildren & 13 great grandchildren; brother, Melvin Miller of Waterloo; sisters-in-law, Mary Helen Miller of Auburn, Mary Ann Miller of Grabill, Tonda Miller of St. Joe and Cynthia (Robert) Jarrett of St. Joe; brother-in-law, Neil Wisler of Spencerville, IN.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Nelson, James, Richard & John Miller; sisters-in-law, Mary Lou Wisler, Sue Miller & Diane Miller; grandchildren, Shawn Galvin, Aries Jacquay & Vash Retz.
At the age of 6, Bob started milking cows on a dairy farm with 85 head of cattle. At 16, he started working for Kroger loading and driving trucks. He joined the army at 18 and was overseas for 3 years in Korea, England, Germany and France where he built bridges and runways. He returned to the United States at 22 to become a farmer. He then went to work at the Auburn Foundry for 34 years as a millwright in the maintenance department. He also served for 25 years on the St. Joe/Concord Fire Dept., drove school bus for DeKalb Eastern School District for 13 years and 18 years on the DeKalb County Sheriff's Dept. After retirement, he started volunteering at Dutch Heritage Baking & Catering, DuWayne Stauffer's Machine Shop, iGrandma's Food Truck and he drove truck for Cross Borders Partners. He loved mowing his lawn, doing word search puzzles and visiting El Paso,TX and Juarez, Mexico where he volunteered with Casas Por Cristo.
Calling will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Leo United Methodist Church (13527 Leo Road, Leo, IN). Services will be held on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at 11 am with calling one hour prior at the church with Pastor David Heim officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, St. Joe, IN with Leo American Legion Post 409 doing military honors.
