Loren L. DeLong, 87, of Pleasant Lake, IN passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born in Antwerp, OH on June 25, 1937, to Lester and Myra (Gorrell) DeLong. He is preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn (Steininger) DeLong, their son, Kenneth L. DeLong, and daughter-in-law Ellen DeLong. Also preceded by sisters Betty and Sharon DeLong Hauser, brother LeRoy DeLong, brother-in-law Ross Sonday, and in-laws Ruth Marvel, Carmen Bateman, and Edwin Bateman.

Loren is survived by his children, Kerry L. DeLong (Norma) of Osoyoos, British Columbia and Wendy DeLong Grosvenor (Charles) of Park City, Utah, sister Nelda DeLong Sonday of Kalamazoo, MI (formerly of Fort Wayne) and brother Tom DeLong (Holly) of Fort Wayne. Also surviving are grandchildren Ellen DeLong Wood (Steve), Emily DeLong Gamble (Clint), and Stephen Kainuma, all of British Columbia, and Sarah Grosvenor (Ludwig) and JD Grosvenor (Natalie) of Salt Lake City, UT, four great grandchildren, Catalina, Finn, Rhys and Ingrid, and many nieces and nephews.

Loren was a veteran of Indiana's Air National Guard serving during the Cold War and stationed in Chamblais, France during the Berlin Wall Crisis. At 20 years old and wearing a suit borrowed from his father for his job interview, Loren began a 35 year career with IBM which took the family from Auburn to Lansing, then to Detroit, the Hudson Valley of New York, on to beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, and finally to retirement in Toronto, Ontario. His extended family continues to live on both sides of the border. Loren was a farm boy at heart and after retirement, he and Marilyn moved back home to Northeastern Indiana. They enjoyed many Thanksgiving feasts at Tom and Holly's, many Easter banquets at Ross and Nelda's, and anywhere that had a basketball game (or anything involving the Big Ten) on TV. He settled down each evening with a big bowl of popcorn, a tradition he and Marilyn began nearly 70 years ago.

Calling will be held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 10-11 am with service following at 11 am at Carnahan-Baidinger & Walter Funeral Home, Spencerville, IN.  Burial in Scipio Cemetery, Harlan, IN.
