Jackie "Jack" Moorefield, 81, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at Dupont Hospital in Ft. Wayne.  He was born on September 30, 1944 in Uniondale, IN to the late Jesse P. & Nellie (Christopher) Moorefield.  He married Jo Ann Kirk on October 27, 1979 in Collins, IN.  He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, proud veteran, and a man whose personality and familiar ways brought smiles to those who knew him.

Jack shared nearly 50 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Jo Ann, whom he loved deeply and cherished dearly.  He found so much joy in their life together and especially loved watching Jo Ann get good-naturedly teased by her children.  Those playful moments never failed to bring a warm chuckle, a smile to his eyes, and a little extra joy to Jack's heart.  

He deeply loved his daughters, and they brought him a tremendous sense of pride.  He was proud of the women they became, the lives they built, and the families they created.  His love for them was steady and unconditional, and knowing they were happy and doing well meant more to him than words could express.

His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him tremendous joy.  Jack loved sharing activities and spending time with them, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come "long live Spoon Wars".  His advice was always given subtly and with love, in his own special way.

A proud Vietnam veteran of the United States Army, Jack carried great pride in his service to his country.  He proudly flew the American flag in his yard, a reflection of the respect and pride he held for his country and his military service.  Jack was a hardworking man who spent 30 years as a mechanic.  He took pride in his work and the skills he developed throughout his career.  Later in life he spent his time working at the local cabinet shop.

Those who knew Jack will always remember his familiar sayings, including, "Get your hair out of your eyes" and "Get out of my kitchen!"  And if you were in trouble, all it would take was one look over the top of his glasses for you to know exactly where you stood.  

Jack loved to fish, and there was no place he would rather be than on the Wabash River in Uniondale.  Time spent fishing, sitting on the deck with family, watching NASCAR, or sitting by the fire were some of his favorite things to share with loved ones.  He also enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures, including fried green tomatoes, spice drops, tenderloins, and oyster dressing.  His trusty Zippo lighter was never far away and was just another part of the Jack everyone knew and loved.  Jack leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a legacy of love, laughter, and family.  He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Ann Moorefield of Leo; daughters, Vikki (Steve) Debaillie of Albion, Cricket (Jonathan) Griswold of Ft. Wayne, Tracy (Marty) Brumfield of Kendallville, Edna (Steve) Pullman of Ft. Wayne; 13 grandchildren, Steven Debaille, Alicia Good, Renee Etzler, Mark Dolezal, Kenny & Jordan Carnahan, Nancy Puckett, Lillian, Braxton, & Carson Brumfield, Bobbi Moorefield, Candice Kwiatkoske and Jackie Moorefield III; 23 great grandchildren, Samara & Shelby Debaille, Aydin & Gavin Good, Ellis & Emily Etzler, Hunter, Makayla & Stanley Dolezal, Aria & Savannah Carnahan, Athena Puckett, Bardley-Hart Kwiatkoske, Sara, Zalila, Makayla & Tinsley Kwiatkoske, Gunnar Frickey, Dallas & Athena Caler, Mercy, Lilith & Ruin Moorefield; brothers, Jesse Jr. & Larry (Cinda) Moorefield; sisters, Beatrice Perrin and Betty (Fred) Dillon.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jackie W. Moorefield, Jr.; brothers, Glenn Moorefield, Michael (Susan) Moorefield, Bill Moorefield; brother-in-law, Fred Perrin Sr. and a sister-in-law, Gaythel Moorefield.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 3-5 pm with the service and ceremony starting at 3:30 pm at the Leo American Legion (14133 Leo Road, Leo, IN) with full military honors.  Pastor Marty Brumfield will officate.
