Obituary

Gerald L. Green, 78, formerly of Kendallville & Georgia, died Friday at his daughter's home in Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born on March 5, 1939 in Preble County, OH to the late Paul I & Veva (Darroh) Green. On October 25, 1964, he married Anna Louise Elser in Huntington, IN and she preceded him in death on June 13, 2000.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa (Jerry) Betz of Ft. Wayne; son, Jerry (Noreen) Elser of Wolcottville; grandchildren, Christina (Tony) Burford of Stroh, David Meyer (Christine) of Waterloo, Dennis (Marie) Orr of Butler, Andy (Lydia) Betz of Ft. Wayne; great grandchildren, Lily and Hunter Orr, Hayden McKnight and one great grandchild on the way. Also surviving are a brother, Larry (Cindy) Green of New York and sisters, Delores Horn of Ohio and Eleanor Altizer of Arizona.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Sue Wu in 2008 and a son, Joseph Green in 2017.

Gerald served in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion in Georgia. He was a certified auto mechanic and later worked as a maintenance man at Auburn Foundry, where he retired in 1999. He was a horseman who was able to shod horses and train & race horses for harness and surry racing. He was an avid fisherman and liked to tinker with his tools, from working on his cars, making lead weights for fish lines to his homemade automatic can crusher. After retirement, he moved to Hawkinsville, Georgia until August of 2017 when he became ill.
