Dorothy M. Sponhower died Monday, May 26, 2014 at DeKalb Health in Auburn, IN. She was born in Butler Township, DeKalb County to the late Charles & Ermina (Paulen) Miller. She married Roy E. Sponhower on January 1, 1940 at Hopewell United Brethren Church. They were the first couple to be married at that church and were able to celebrate 64 years together before Roy preceded her in death on March 29, 2004.
Surviving are daughters, Jill A. (Jack) Hoard of Spencerville, IN; Joan A. (Carl) Benz of Couch, MO; M. Jane (James) Meshberger of Linn Grove, IN; and one son, Mark E. (Janis) Sponhower of Auburn, IN; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren, Rene & Todd Benz; a brother, Russell Miller; a sister, Grace Fredrick and a son, Tim A. Sponhower.
She went all 12 years of school without missing a day and graduated third in her class at Spencerville High School. She worked at the Auburn Rubber Company and Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company and helped her husband on the farm. She was a member of Hopewell United Brethren Church, Jackson Township Homemakers Extension Club and she & Roy loved to travel the world together.
Service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 2 pm with calling 2 hours prior at Hopewell United Brethren Church (6852 CR 35 Auburn, IN) with Pastor John Erwin officiating.
