Betty Bevington, 96, died Friday, December 23, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born in Hicksville, OH on June 2, 1920 to the late Charles Everett & Flossie (Sechler) Mavis, Sr. She married Forrest Ray "Red" Bevington on July 1, 1950 in Auburn, IN and he preceded her in death on July 3, 1994.
Surviving are her daughters, Lucinda (Michael) Stauffer of Ft. Wayne, IN and Laura (James) Beckman of Petersburg, KY; daughter-in-law, Jackie Bevington of St. Joe, IN; grandchildren, Jonathan (Beth) Stauffer of Ft. Wayne, IN, Sarah (Christopher) Heckle II of Greenfield, IN, Rachel (Justin) Coomer of Woodburn, IN, Jessie (Nicholas) Winn of Ft. Wayne, IN; great grandchildren, Alexander Stauffer, Christopher Heckle III and Wyatt Coomer.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Bevington; a sister-in-law, Mable F. Bevington; a brother, Charles Everett Mavis, Jr.; 2 grandsons, Cory J. Bevington & Michael Stauffer, Jr. and a cousin, Imogene Mavis.
Betty worked as a registered nurse in the Chicago area, was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in St. Joe, the DeKalb Memorial Hospital Auxillary, St. Joe Literary Club and WOW Women's Church Ministry. She also volunteered at The Curiosity Shop, for the Red Cross Blood Drives and sang in the DeKalb County Home Extension Chorus. She also helped many years with setting up the St. Joe Lion's Club tent at the DeKalb County Free Fall Fair along with her sidekicks, Mable & Imogene.
Calling will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 from 2-4 & 6-8 pm at Carnahan-Baidinger & Walter Funeral Home, Spencerville, IN. Service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11 am with calling one hour prior at St. Mark Lutheran Church in St. Joe, IN. Pastor Floyd Shoup officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery, St. Joe.
